Summer is a great time for getting outside and enjoying the sunshine, which means it’s a good time to get into the garden. A pleasant garden can be a great asset for your home, especially during the summer months when vibrant and colourful flowers and plants are in season. For those thinking of selling their home in summer, a healthy and well-maintained garden can add significant property value so start planning out your seasonal plants and get those green thumbs ready.

  1. Tame plants and trees

Trees and plants need to be trimmed back regularly throughout the year to keep them looking neat and to encourage new growth.

Cut back hedges to make them bushy and even, and prune back old, wilting flowers to give new ones a chance to grow.

You should also assess your trees to see whether they need to be trimmed back to open up footpaths or reveal views.

  1. Love your lawn

Whether your lawn is overgrown with weeds or suffering from bald spots it can be brought back to life with a bit of regular attention.

Start by removing any dead grass or weeds from your lawn. Weed killers can be useful, but if you have the patience it’s often best to lift weeds out by hand.

Mow, feed and water your lawn regularly to keep it healthy and green.

  1. Make way for entertainment

Make the most of your outdoor space by adding a designated area to sit down and entertain friends.

Add a dining table and chairs in a quiet, shaded area, or if you don’t have much space a garden bench with pillows can be a warm and inviting place to hang out.

For those with pools – a few sun lounges can be a great place to spend a hot, summer’s day and give the property a resort like feel.
